The first time I was in St.Barth was 1995. I was there on a day trip from St. Maarten and instantly fell in love with this island---I knew someday I would return and 15 years later… here I was.
Vacation planning began with finding a villa. I did a LOT of research and kept coming back to “Flamands Blue”. It was in our budget, had a great location and every review I read was fabulous. On numerous forums, people had raved about the villa but also about Jeff the owner. I spoke to Jeff to get more info and he was helpful and very kind. He helped us with everything from flights to car, restaurants, diving, beaches, etc---we knew we had made the right choice!
St. Barts was just as beautiful as I remembered and we immediately fell in love with Flamands Blue. The location is great…only a few minutes from Gustavia and overlooking pristine Flamands Beach---what a view! The place is immaculate and very comfortable, we felt very much at home there. Jeff has done a great job with both the interior and exterior: kitchen, living, bedroom, decks and Jacuzzi--this was just what we wanted.
We spent a lot of time morning and afternoons on the deck and we could not get enough of the views.
On the second night there Joe and I were enjoying the sunset, when…he pulls a ring out of his pocket!!! It was a moment in my life I will never forget. Oh yeah…I said “YES!”
So about the island: restaurants we great. I am a vegetarian, although the selections were limited I found something very good every meal. Some of my favorites: Le VietNam (most vegetarian selections), Le Creperie (vegi crepes and Panini’s), Le Repaire (great location on the harbor/excellent service), Eddy’s (very cool atmosphere) and Hotel Isle de France down from the villa (beautiful dining room, top notch service) right on the beach.
A very cool restaurant interior.
Beaches: besides walking down to Flamands our favorites: Gouvanier (awesome surf, easy parking, not crowded). Really, all the beaches are pristine and beautiful and we hit every one. Saline and Colombier were close seconds for us. We liked the less crowded beaches. Lorient and Colombier had great snorkeling. St. Jean was nice but had the most people. I got some great airplane shots there.
I SCUBA and Jeff recommended Marine Serices on Gustavia Harbor. Bertrand the owner rocked! He is such a nice guy and so accommodating. He set up us with Stephan for the dives and everything was perfect. Joe does not dive but he came along and we had a blast. I saw a baby grey shark, a family of sea turtles, eagle rays, spotted eels and lots of cool stuff.
We had a fabulous time. I love to travel but rarely return to the same place twice, but St. Barts will be the exception. We decided our last night that we’d come back in a heartbeat. Now, how could we stay anywhere but Flamands Blue? We loved this villa and it will remain a special place in our hearts.
Thanks to Jeff for sharing this gem with us…until next time.
