Johnathan and Katy's Honeymoon

I surprised my wife with a trip to St Barths for our honeymoon (she didn’t know our destination until the ticket agent informed her at the airport). I rented a week at the villa Flamands Blue and it was a great decision. The villa is kept in wonderful condition and the views are amazing. The villa owner, Jeff, takes great pride in keeping his villa in immaculate shape and it was obvious to us when we arrived. In addition to keeping such a beautiful villa, Jeff’s advice and information about the island proved to be invaluable. Honestly, I don’t think we would have come to St Barth’s if Jeff hadn’t gone out of his way to describe to me the “ins and outs” of the island. He was an incredible wealth of information for our honeymoon.

We arrived on the island via WinAir with no delays. Rented a 4WD Jimmy and headed up to the villa. Our first destination was Gouveneur beach, which was beautiful and we were the only ones there. Dinner that night at Le Rapaire looking over the harbor. After dinner we had our first “Rhum Vanille” – it was excellent! We learned that it is customary to serve a “Rhum Vanille” after meals.

Day 2: We made our first trip to Petite Colombe - what a great place and so convenient to Flamands Blue. We explored St. Jean beach, and had some drinks at La Plage. We had dinner at Harbors, it was SOOO good….we had the grouper with white butter sauce and a lobster/shrimp Pasta.

Day 3: Coffee and croissant from Petit Colombe. Then Lorient Beach, where we snorkeled. Next, Marigot Beach, near Guanahani Hotel. There was lots of construction and the hotel was not open. IT looked like there was a lot of damage from the storms. Then we went to Grand Cul de Sac. Then on to Grand Fond for the Washing Machine/Natural Pools hike. Some goats were eyeballing us as we hiked along. Didn’t make it too far, storms seem to have made the trail very rocky with loose gravel and stones. We were very hot and sweaty and decided to head to Shell Beach for a swim. Despite the Hurricane a month ago, the beach was beautiful. We LOVED it. Had a great swim. Then headed to the Do Brazil beach bar for some Caribs/white wine and panini’s. We had a table right on the beach. Made it back to Flamands Beach around 430 for a happy hour with some delicious champagne. We went to Banniers for dinner.

Day 4. Spent another beautiful morning looking at Flamands perfectly blue waters sipping peligrino, it doesn’t get better that that. Hiked to Columbier in the afternoon, it was amazing. This was our favorite beach – romantic and beautiful!!! Deserted when we arrived. We snorkled and saw many colorful fish. We had champagne again at sunset afterwards on Flamands beach.

Day 5: Started the day with a picnic breakfast on St Jean beach. Walked on the beach, swam, watched airplanes. We saw a small plane land from the beach side. We had a late lunch at the Do Brazil lower beach bar (with feet in the sand). Snorkled at Shell Beach. Dinner at Wall House. Beef Tartar compliments of the chef. This was a first for me and I was impressed. Creole crab cake appetizer with corn/mango salsa…delicious! Katie had Lobster Medallions, and I had a fillet. Rhums and expresso’s to finish the meal.

Day 6: Late breakfast on the beach at La Plage. Amazing views! Then we sat in the chairs at Isle de France for the afternoon. Dinner at IdF….Lobster ravioli appetizer. Katie had mahi, I had prawns with risotto, both were excellent. Expresso and rhum vanilla for dessert.

Day 7: Spent the morning at Saline…what a beautiful beach. Late lunch at IdF…we shared a lobster wok and crab & lobster fritters. Rose and sav blanc wine by the glass. Expresso’s. Feet in the sand. AWESOME.

Departure Day: Woke up early to pack to leave :(. Jeff ( villa owner) came over to say hello, such a great guy. St Barth’s was the perfect place for our honeymoon. We will certainly return, and will be reserving Flamands Blue. What an incredible experience!
